The Brazilian Senate votes today on whether or not to go ahead with an impeachment trial of President Dilma Rousseff; and thousands of protesters are arrested as Kashmir marks the anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah.

Today’s main stories:  The Brazilian senate will vote today over whether to officially open an impeachment trial against the suspended President Dilma Rousseff over accusations of budget irregularities. We talk to the journalist Philipp Lichterbeck.

Thousands of protesters have been arrested amid the ongoing political unrest in Kashmir. Today also marks the anniversary of the ousting of Kashmir's Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah in 1953 — we speak to his granddaughter Nyla Khan about the prospect of a peaceful resolution for the region.
