WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Ban also noted that there is no military solution to the civil war in Yemen, and urged all sides to seek a negotiated end to the conflict.

"The secretary-general notes with dismay that civilians, including children, continue to bear the brunt of increased fighting and military operations in Yemen," the statement said on Monday. "He [Ban] calls for a swift investigation of this tragic event."

Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government and Houthi rebels. The Houthis are backed by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
