WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — AFRICOM said Tuesday’s airstrikes hit multiple targets, including terrorists’ fighting positions, vehicle-born explosives, a truck and a command and control vehicle.
"These airstrikes bring the total number of airstrikes in support of Operation Odyssey Lightning, which began Aug. 1, to 57," the release stated on Wednesday.
On August 1, the United States began a new aerial campaign against Daesh at the request of and in coordination with the GNA. The campaign, called Operation Odyssey Lightning, will allow the GNA to make a strategic advance against the terror group’s positions in Sirte, according to the US Defense Department.
On Wednesday, GNA head of intelligence Col. Ismail Shukri said the terrorists have lost almost all the territory they have seized in Sirte.
