The experimental field belongs to the Russian Research Institute of Irrigated Vegetable and Melon (VNIIOB).
Originally, the field had been enclosed with a moat, in a vain attempt to keep out the cows. However, the moat was changed into a road and in the ensuing aftermath, security couldn’t keep up with keeping out the bovines at night.
"We have already been on duty at night, but it is still very difficult to cope with them as 20 to 30 cows run from different sides,” said the employee.
Meanwhile, scientists have been collecting seeds to try and save their unique designs.
Police are investigating the cows owner, to see if any criminal damages can be assessed. According to the law, the owner will face a fine of several thousand rubles for the uncontrolled cattle grazing.
