Nicolas Sarkozy aims to make his return on the back of Hollande’s persistent unpopularity and the raft of problems afflicting France such as the several high-profile terrorist attacks that happened since he left office and the contentious discussions on French identity. Sarkozy is positioning himself as the experienced, conservative candidate who can get things done and restore the country’s stability, but his talk about less integration and more national sovereignty within the EU is making a lot of people in Brussels nervous.
