MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United States has relocated more than 10,000 Syrian refugees to the country in 2016, thus meeting its target one month ahead of schedule, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated Tuesday.
"As of 29 August 2016, 10,172 Syrian refugees were admitted in the United States as part of the Obama administration’s promise to increase the number of Syrian refugee admissions by September 30, 2016," the statement reads.
The migration body also noted that another 85,000 refugees are expected to be admitted to the United State by the end of September.
In 2015, Obama vowed to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States over the space of a year.
