Quebec residents André Tamine, 63, Isabelle Lagacé, 28, and Melina Roberge, 22, were arrested after police searched the 2,000 compartments on the ship and found the massive drug stash.
The two women documented their journey together extensively on social media, though it remains unclear whether they knew Tamine.
“The maximum sentence for this charge is life in prison,” the Australian Border Services said in a press release, also stating that the suspects were working with a "very well organized syndicate.”
The trio appeared in court on Monday and did not apply for bail, as it was formally refused.
"These syndicates should be on notice that the Australian Border Force is aware of all the different ways they attempt to smuggle drugs in our country and we are working with a range of international agencies to stop them," Australian Border Force assistant commissioner Clive Murray said in a statement.
The Australian Federal Police stated that they have not ruled out further arrests in connection to the case.
