Trump Vows to Fix US Immigration System With Harsh Measures

US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump promised a harsh crackdown on illegal, particularly criminal, immigrants after a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Speaking in Arizona on Wednesday, Trump stressed that there must be "zero tolerance for criminal aliens" and promised to triple the number of ICE deportation officers, increase the number of border patrol agents by 5,000, as well as to block funding for sanctuary cities.

Trump said that the biometric entry/exit visa tracking in the United States will be finally complete under his presidency.

He also vowed to create a new "deportation task force" that will ensure that criminal illegal immigrants are deported from the United States.

Trump pointed out that the US immigration system is "decades" old and that the US Immigration Commission needs to come up with new priorities and controls for the outdated system.

Trump criticized his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for her promises of a "radical amnesty" and stressed that he will "break the cycle of amnesty" if elected president.

The Republican nominee promised that no surplus visas would be awarded under his presidency and that a legal status or citizenship would be impossible to obtain if a person enters the United States illegally.

In addition, Trump said that the United States would no longer accept immigrants from Syria and Libya under his presidency and the issuance of visas would be suspended to citizens of any country where proper screening is impossible.

He also stressed on Wednesday that illegal immigrants who abuse the system of US government benefits will be priorities for deportation.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump met with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto in Mexico City.

After the talks, Trump said that the issue of the border wall between the United States and Mexico was discussed during the Wednesday meeting, but the payment for the wall was saved to be discussed at a later date. Speaking in Arizona later on Wednesday, Trump stressed that Mexico would pay for the wall 100 percent.
