WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — During a campaign speech for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Obama blasted her Republican opponent Donald Trump for praising President Putin.

"When the interviewer asks him [Trump], ‘Why do you support this guy [Putin]?’ He says, ‘He is a strong guy. Look, he’s got an 82 percent poll rating.’ Well, yes, Saddam Hussein had a 90 percent poll rating," Obama stated.

Trump has repeatedly said that he expects to maintain good relations with Russia and President Putin if elected to become the next US president. On September 7, the Republican nominee argued that Putin was a better leader than Obama.

On Saturday, a poll conducted by Russia’s Public Opinion Fund (FOM) revealed that some 80 percent of Russians approve of Putin's job as the country’s president.

A CNN/ORC poll found in August that Obama's approval rating has risen to 54 percent, or its highest point since the time prior to his second inauguration in 2013.
