One day, Somar was walking on the streets of Damascus, when a wooden peg suddenly fell on his head from a window of an apartment above him.
After this occurrence, Somar, who works as a taxi driver, decided to try his hand at becoming a sculptor, creating small figures on various topics, including the war.
Somar told Sputnik that he collects any wooden objects, which he finds on the streets, and turns them into raw materials for his future works.
"Unfortunately, I do not have enough tools. There is only a utility knife, wooden resources that I pick up on the streets and other small improvised means."
"I hope that in the near future I will be able to replenish my arsenal for creative work," he added.
Many wooden masterpieces now stand in all their beauty on Somar's shelves: a small wooden replica of an artillery shell, a bullet, a gas cylinder, a soldier's boot, a well, a church, a glass of wine and some other figures.
"The clothes peg that fell on my head, should have probably wiggled some gyrus responsible for creativity," Somar said with a smile.
