MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Responsibility for the attack was taken by a group of hackers, operating under the name of Aslan Neferler, which also conducted a cyberattack on Vienna's airport two weeks ago, Austrian Krone newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, the attackers wanted to block the server of the bank by sending five million emails per minute.
Hacking attempts follow diplomatic crisis between Austria and Turkey. Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz voiced intention to prevent Turkey from joining the European Union after Ankara suppressed the July 15 coup attempt, while Turkish side in response recalled its ambassador and blamed Austria for support of terrorism.
