MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Acting commander of Russia’s Southern Military District Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov has been officially appointed to the post on Tuesday, the district spokesman said.
"Colonel-General Alexander Dvornikov was appointed commander of the Southern Military District by a decree of the Russian president," Southern Military District spokesman Col. Igor Gorbul said.
Dvornikov has been performing duties as district commander since July 1.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said Rear Adm. Sergei Pinchuk has been appointed to command the Caspian Flotilla.
