Hundreds of Migrants Clash With French Police on Road to Calais Port
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The mayor of Calais, a city in northern France and home to an infamous refugee camp "The Jungle," said Thursday that she wants to suspend the construction of the wall that would prevent refugees from boarding the trucks bound for the United Kingdom.

"While the government has not responded to my demand not to build the wall, this Thursday, September 22, the city of Calais registered a number of violations of ecology and city planning regulations by the company responsible for the [wall] construction. If there is no response within eight days, I will order a stop to the construction," Natacha Bouchart said in her Facebook blog.

The United Kingdom plans to build a 13-foot-high wall along the beltway leading to the port to stop migrants attempting to reach Britain because of family ties, language and job opportunities there.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced his plans to fully dismantle the makeshift camp in Calais by the end of 2016, sending migrants to other camps spread out across France and helping those eligible to move to the United Kingdom to go there.
