DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — "It is no longer a secret that Qatar and Saudi Arabia have played a part in this [spreading terrorism], promoting their Wahabist Takfirist ideology and their death fatwas that have nothing to do with Islam. They have bragged about supporting terrorism in every way… Meanwhile, Turkey has opened its border to let in tens of thousands of terrorists from all around the world and has provided them with logistical support and training camps under the supervision of Turkish and Western intelligence," Muallem said addressing the UN General Assembly as quoted by the UN press service.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups, including Islamic State (ISIL, also known as Daesh), as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as Jabhat al-Nusra, or al-Nusra Front), which are both outlawed in Russia and the United States.
Saudi Arabia, alongside Turkey and Qatar have been repeatedly labeled by numerous experts, media outlets and NGOs as the main sponsors of terrorism, benefiting from the instability in the countries' shaken by the insurgents' activities.
