WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow does not rule out that the United States intends to use the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham as part of its "Plan B" to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.
"I don’t know what he [Lavrov] means by it…but it is absurd," Toner commented.
The Syrian nationwide ceasefire deal, forged by the United States and Russia, went into effect on September 9. It was shattered by numerous violations, triggering escalation of hostilities between the Syrian army and militants in the city of Aleppo.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed that Washington failed to implement the key priority of the September 9 agreements which was delineation of moderate opposition armed forces and terrorist groups.
