"Since July 2011, President Obama has said that Bashar al-Assad has lost legitimacy, that he has to leave because he used weapons and killed unarmed Syrian citizens. But what kinds of measures has Obama taken towards Bashar al-Assad? Nothing. He only talks and give speeches," HNC coordinator Riad Hijab told Al Jazeera broadcaster on Friday.
According to Hijab, the progress on Syria toward forming the transitional government has never been reached despite the ceasefire agreement, conferences and diplomatic efforts at the highest level. He noted that Obama's policy on the issue was "hesitant and weak".
Syria is shattered by the ongoing armed conflict between the government forces loyal to Assad and other extremist groups, including Daesh and Nusra Front, now known as Jabhat Fateh al Sham, both outlawed in Russia and other countries. The recent peace deal brokered by Moscow and Washington in early September failed to reconcile the warring sides.
