WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – One of the largest newspapers in the United States, the Chicago Tribune, has endorsed Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson for president, the Tribune’s editorial board wrote on Friday.
"The Chicago Tribune today endorses Libertarian Gary Johnson for president of the United States," the board’s editorial stated.
It asserted that although Johnson is not an ideal candidate, either Republican nominee Donald Trump or Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton would be a worse choice for voters in November’s election.
"Every American who casts a vote for him [Johnson] is standing for principles — and can be proud of that vote," the editorial added.
The Tribune said Trump is unfit to be president because he lacks the character and disposition for the job. While Clinton is capable of leading, the editorial expressed concern about her plans to increase federal spending and taxes, as well as about her honesty and trustworthiness.
