The UK’s Conservative Party conference sparked controversy with a “British Jobs for British Workers” style policy proposal; and, as voting for UN Secretary General enters a new phase, can it uphold its new found transparency?

Voting for the next UN Secretary General goes into a new phase today, but as the veto power of the permanent members is brought to the table – we’ll be asking just what the point was in all that new, more transparent style of contest that was trumpeted earlier in the year. We speak to Ben Donaldson, Head of Campaigns at the United Nations Association.

The UK Conservative Party’s conference closed today but the ruling party’s conference has not been without controversy. Yesterday, Home Secretary, Amber Rudd’s proposal to compel companies to publish a list of all their foreign staff caused a series of newspaper headlines. According to Rudd, the policy would help prevent migrants taking jobs British people can do. We speak to Jonathan Portes of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.
