Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Omer Celik said that cooperation between the European Union and Turkey was a matter of great importance in solving migration crisis.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Omer Celik said that it was immoral to subject refugees to death by constructing a barbed wire fence on borders, local media reported Friday.

Celik noted at a joint press conference with Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni that cooperation between the European Union and Turkey was a matter of great importance in solving migration crisis, according to the Daily Sabah newspaper.

The minister also reportedly said that both countries had fulfilled their obligations concerning refugees and stressed that the Syrian crisis affected not only the Middle East but European countries as well, since the recent escalation of the conflict in the Syrian Aleppo could cause further migration flows.

Europe is currently struggling to manage a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people leaving conflict-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa to escape violence and poverty and seeking asylum in Europe.
