WARSAW (Sputnik) – The main Polish opposition party, the Civic Platform (PO), is to propose the parliament's lower house, the Sejm, to submit a motion of no confidence against Education Minister Anna Zalewska next week, the party’s leader Grzegorz Schetyna said Monday.
"Next week [we] will propose the Sejm to submit a motion of no confidence against Minister of National Education Anna Zalewska," Schetyna said, as quoted by the Polish Press Agency.
On Monday, Polish teachers took to the streets of Poland's big cities to protest against the education reform, which they believe will lead to mass dismissals and a decrease in the quality of education.
The Polish Teachers' Union, which organized the protest, initially announced 25,000 people would take part in the rally.
Earlier in the day, Zalewska met with the representatives of teachers' unions. Both parties expressed their readiness for a dialogue, but Slawomir Broniarz, the head of the Polish Teachers' Union, said after the meeting that the minister was focused solely on economic issues, without touching upon the education reform in general.
