MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The statement was issued following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Sudanese President Omar Bashir.
"It was stated [at the meeting] that Russia and Sudan have similar approaches to the Middle East and Northern Africa, including the fight against international terrorism, resolving conflicts in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen," the ministry's statement said.
The statement stressed that both Russia and Sudan noted the key role the Middle East countries were to play in establishing security and stability in the region.
Bogdanov and Bashir also discussed further development of Russian-Sudanese relationship and talked, among other issues, of the situation in South Sudan, which gained its independence from Sudan in 2011 and has been struggling with an internal crisis ever since.
