MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks said Tuesday that he would not visit Russia later in the month citing "unacceptable restrictions" imposed by local authorities on the program of his visit.
"In recent months, I have been discussing with the Russian authorities my intention to visit the Russian Federation in the third week of October to focus on several pressing human rights issues. It is with deep regret that I have to announce that this visit will not take place because of the unacceptable restrictions that the Russian authorities wanted to impose on my programme," Muiznieks said in a statement published on the website of the Council of Europe.
He added that the term of his visit was restricted to some 48 hours with only one full working day.
