The Seventh Xiangshan Forum, dedicated this year to building a new type of international relations through dialogue and cooperation, opened in Beijing on Tuesday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — According to the organizers, the forum which is scheduled to last through Wednesday, will be attended by more than 500 delegates from law enforcement agencies and institutions, as well as by representatives of the expert community from almost 60 countries.

The Russian delegation is represented by Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, who is expected to deliver a speech during the forum.

Discussions of the two-day forum will focus on such issues as the role of the armed forces in global governance, responding to new security threats the Asia-Pacific region through cooperation, collaboration in the field of maritime security and international counerterrorism efforts.

The first Xiangshan Forum, which is being organized by the Chinese Defense Ministry, was held in 2006. Starting from 2015, the forum has been held on an annual basis.
