MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov – Indonesia’s desire to deepen its relations with Russia is unaffected by the state of Moscow’s relations with the Western countries, Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Commission IV Edhy Prabowo told Sputnik.
"Irrespective of the sanctions and whatever the level of relations between Russia and the West are, we are always looking forward to deepen our relations with Russia," Prabowo, the head of the commission in charge of agricultural, plantations, forestry, maritime, fisheries and food affairs, said after Tuesday's meeting with Deputy Chairperson of the Russian parliament's upper chamber Ilyas Umakhanov.
"Since we had special relations in the past, and we want our youth to learn more about it," Prabowo noted, adding that respective work is being done in Indonesia with the Indonesian students learning Russian and in Russian universities.
The United States and the European Union imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia over Moscow's alleged meddling in the Ukrainian conflict and Crimea's secession from Ukraine and reunification with Russia. Russia has repeatedly refuted the accusations, and warned that the sanctions are counterproductive and undermine regional and global stability.
