David Axelrod, former White House advisor and Chief Strategist for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, suggested that Hillary Clinton should skip the third presidential debate after Donald Trump challenged her to undergo a drug test.

"You have to wonder if @HillaryClinton will/should reconsider next debate, given the depths to which this has sunk," Axelrod tweeted.

Trump proposed that the candidates both undergo a drug test at a rally in New Hampshire on Saturday.

"Athletes, they make them take a drug test, right? I think we should take a drug test prior to the debate," he said.

"We should take a drug test, prior, because I don't know what's going on with her, but at the beginning of her last debate, she was all pumped up…  and at the end it was like, 'Oh, take me down,' " Trump said, mocking Clinton.

He also noted Hillary could "barely reach her car."

Clinton Alleged Memory Loss Driven by Fear of Disclosing Emails
Concerns about Hillary Clinton's health have been one of Trump's most popular campaign points. The Republican nominee has repeatedly questioned whether Clinton is physically fit to serve as a president, feeding various conspiracy theories. The public's concerns are based on lengthy coughing fits and the candidate faltering as she entered a vehicle following a 9/11 commemoration ceremony. Clinton was later publicly diagnosed with a case of pneumonia.

Axelrod served as a Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama during his first term and later became a Senior Strategist for Obama's successful re-election campaign in 2012. He is currently director of the non-partisan Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago and a Senior Political Commentator for CNN.
