As the Iraqi army begins the push to liberate Mosul from Da'esh's grip, Shia militias have tasked with carrying out an offensive on a town in the North which is also occupied by Da’esh. However locals of Hawija have expressed serious concern about what those Shia militias might do when they get there. We speak to Dr Sayed Ammar Nakshwani, the Imam Ali Chair of Shia Studies at Hartford Seminary in the US, and Tallha Abdulrazaq of the University of Exeter's Strategy & Security Institute.
American journalist and documentary maker, Deia Schlosberg, was arrested last Thursday and is now facing three charges of felony conspiracy — which bring with them a possible prison sentence of up to forty five years. Deia was arrested in Walhalla, North Dakota, while filming protesters trying to shut down a tar sands oil pipeline, carrying oil from Canada to the United States.
