LONDON(Sputnik) — The relations between the United Kingdom and Russia will not return to its usual level and London will continue to support the sanctions imposed on Moscow, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Tuesday.
"Of course, it is right that the UK and the Russian Federation should continue to cooperate and to engage in all the areas, where we have common interests, but in view of the ruthless and brutal behavior of the Russians in Ukraine and in Syria I hope the House [of Commons] will agree that is right that the UK should be on the lead in keeping the pressure on sanctions," Johnson said speaking at the parliament.
Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union, including the United Kingdom, deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.
Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
