Putin, Assad Discuss Humanitarian Pause in Aleppo in Phone Talks
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday that he does not have high expectations for ceasefire talks with Russia in Geneva, and is not approaching the negotiations based on trust.

“With respect to the meetings that are taking place in Geneva…I am not approaching this with a great high sense of expectation and nothing is based on trust,” Kerry said.

Kerry also noted that if Syrian and Russian forces liberate Aleppo, the opposition and radical groups will be even less willing to engaging in ceasefire talks.

“If Russia and [Syrian President Bashar] Assad succeed in taking Aleppo, the fundamental dynamic of this war does not change,” Kerry claimed. “Will it change the attitude of the people who have been driven out and the people that have been radicalized? No. They will be even more determined to seek revenge and even less inclined to come to the table to negotiate”
