BERN (Sputnik) — In reference to a bilateral meeting of the Russian delegation with chairman of the upper house of the Swiss Parliament Raphael Comte, Matvienko stated that the delegation presented Russia's position to their partners, adding that "we favor the coordination of efforts, we are ready for an equal dialogue."
"We call on our partners to unite in the fight against terrorism. We call on our US partners to separate the terrorist organizations from the moderate opposition, so that we fight the terrorists," Matvienko told journalists.
Matvienko also stated that overthrowing Syrian President Bashar Assad "would not improve the situation, but would only make it worse," and would lead to the Middle East becoming unmanageable.
Syria's civil war has raged since 2011, with government forces fighting Syrian opposition groups that want to remove Assad from power, as well as a number of extremist groups.
