UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and US Secretary of State John Kerry threatened Russia and Syria with more sanctions last Sunday after fighting escalated in Aleppo.

German media reported last week that Chancellor Angela Merkel intended to propose a new round of economic sanctions against Russia to the European Union, which has had restrictions for it in place since the start of the Ukraine conflict in 2014.
