SUKHUMI (Sputnik) — On July 10, Abkhazia held a referendum on early presidential elections, which was declared void due to low turnout (1.23 percent). After the referendum failed the opposition announced preparations for the nationwide gathering to draw the country out of the deep political and socioeconomic crisis.
"We are going to call on the president again so that he weighs all pros and cons and takes decision on early termination of his powers. It is our point of view and we will seek that in the near future. Once again, if the majority of our people support it," Bzhania said.
He added that in the coming two-three weeks, members of the organization would meet with residents of Abkhazian regions to discuss the president’s resignation.
Bzhania added that the situation in the country remained "dangerous for the national security" and expressed his concern about the work of law enforcement agencies and the judicial system.
