Jordan Agrees to Host 2017 Arab League Summit After Yemen's Refusal

Jordan has agreed to host the the 28th summit of the Arab League as Yemen announced its inability to cope, the Arab League said on Monday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — Yemen was going to host the summit in 2017 on a rotation basis. Last week, the Yemeni government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi announced that the country would not be able to host the summit.

Yemeni Authorities Refuse to Host 28th Summit of Arab League

As Yemen announced the refusal, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit sent a letter to Jordan calling on Amman to host the summit, to which a positive response was received, the spokesman for the secretary-general, Mahmoud Afifi, said.

The Arab League, established back in 1945, comprises of 22 regional states, which are striving to cooperate on political, economic, cultural, scientific, and social issues in order to promote the interests of the Arab world.
