NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – According to the NDTV media outlet, the incident took place late on Sunday on the border between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh states in India’s east, when police forces carried out an attack against a Maoist camp, where at least 50 militants were holding a meeting.
Police had been already informed about the meeting of top Maoist officials and therefore started the search and combing operation in the area. Following the operation, ammunition and weapons including AK-47 and self-loading rifles were seized from the militants.
The Maoists, widely known as the Naxalites or the Naxals, have been fighting the Indian government since the 1960s. The Maoists are far-left radical communists, who support the Maoist ideology and aim to overthrow the Indian government.
