MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia will invariably respond to a possible new round of sanctions imposed by the United States, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.
"That is not how he put it. He said we will definitely respond if there are new sanctions," Lavrov told Russia's RBC news channel when asked to explain Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov's previous remarks indicating a "series activities" prepared in retaliation.
"First we will see what happens with the intention of our US colleagues who threaten, but continue to speak with us," Lavrov added.
He said US State Secretary John Kerry had expressed Washington's interest in cooperating with Moscow on Syria in a late Monday telephone conversation.
"We will see," Lavrov stressed.
