MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier this month, Steven Woolfe, then frontrunner in right-wing UKIP's leadership race, collapsed in parliament in the French city of Strasbourg after an altercation with fellow party member Mike Hookem.
"Following recommendation of EP Advisory Committee on Code of Conduct, I referred incident involving MEPs Hookem and Woolfe to FR authorities," Schulz’s media team quoted him as saying on Twitter.
The parliament president said he was going to make a decision about sanctions based on the results of the French investigation.
Woolfe accused Hookem of knocking him out during a heated debate. He was rushed to hospital with a head injury and treated for seizures, according to UKIP’s former leader Nigel Farage. The lawmaker left the party last week, saying it had become ungovernable without Farage.
