Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has emerged with a slight lead over his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the "battleground" state of New Hampshire, according to a new survey conducted by WBUR/MassINC Polling Group.

Clinton Retains Slim Lead Over Trump in Final Push Toward Presidential Election

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Trump has 40 percent of support among registered voters in New Hampshire compared to Clinton's 39 percent, the poll released on Thursday revealed.

"The race really couldn't be closer in New Hampshire at the moment," MassINC Polling Group President Steve Koczela said in the release about the survey.

Earlier in October, another survey showed Clinton held a four-point lead over Trump in the state.

New Hampshire plays an important role in US presidential elections because the state is almost evenly dived between Democrats and Republicans.

The 2016 presidential election is set for November 8.
