TOKYO (Sputnik) – Abe said he expects to meet Russian president in mid-November in Peru to make sure whether there is a progress regarding Putin’s forthcoming visit to Japan on December 15, which had been postponed from 2014, Kyodo news agency reported.
The statement was made after Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko reported to Abe the results of the negotiations on bilateral economic cooperation held in Moscow during Seko’s recent visit to Russia.
On November 3, Seko arrived in Moscow for three days of talks with senior Russian officials, including First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and Energy Minister Alexander Novak.
Last week, Russia’s parliament speaker Valentina Matvienko said that Putin and Abe could hold a meeting ahead of Putin’s visit to Tokyo, on the sidelines of the APEC’s summit in Peru’s capital Lima.
