MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On October 3,the prime minister said that he was ready to resign along with his government if the candidate from his party loses the presidential election in November. On Sunday, the Bulgarians failed to elect their president in the first round, as no one of 21 candidates, including Tsacheva gathered support of more than half of country's voters. At the same time, the GERB's candidate finished only second after Rumen Radev supported by the country's Socialist party, according to exit polls.
"If we lose vote, we will be ready for snap election, more specifically we will go away from the governing. We have chances to win in the second round. We will seek support of all citizens, especially of those, who will not have a representative in the second round," Borissov told reporters at the press conference after the Sunday elections, speaking about his promise to resign if Tsacheva fails to win in the first round.
At the same time Borissov added that he would make a decision on resignation after the second, but not after the first round, because Radev was named a candidate for the presidential post not by a political party, but by an initiative committee.
The second round of the vote is expected to take place on November 13.
