MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Le Monde newspaper, Jadot’s candidacy was upheld by 54.25 percent of votes, while his major rival Michele Rivasi gained 40.75 percent of votes.
Former Housing Minister of France's main "green" party, Cecile Duflot was also set to participate as a candidate in the 2017 presidential elections in the country, however she failed to advance to the second round of the party's primaries.
Jadot has been a member of the European Parliament and vice president of the Committee on International Trade of the European Parliament since 2009.
The first round of the French presidential elections is scheduled for April 23, 2017.
