WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than 300 international monitors are observing the presidential election in 34 US states, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE-ODIHR) spokesperson Thomas Rymer, told Sputnik.
"There will be 301 observers from the OSCE ODIHR and OSCE PA, combined, from 44 countries and observing in 34 states," Rymer said.
In the US electoral system, individual states administer elections, including those for US federal offices such as the office of the president and Congress.
Laws in some US states prohibit international observers at polling stations, but others — including Missouri, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota — allow them.
Rymer explained that OSCE’s initial assessment of the US elections will be presented at a press conference on Wednesday.
