WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Monday, Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, told a campaign rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan that if elected to be the next US president, she would work closely with Sanders.
"Bernie Sanders he made a deal with the devil… He ruined his legacy when he did that," Trump said on Monday night. "He's got to be very, very embarrassed."
Sanders competed unsuccessfully with Clinton for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. However, emails provided by WikiLeaks and other sources and materials have suggested that top Democratic officials colluded with Clinton to ensure that she won the nomination.
Despite this development, Sanders still agreed to endorse Clinton for US president, but lost many supporters who went on to join the Green Party nominee Jill Stein or even Trump.
