ANKARA (Sputnik) — One Turkish security officer was killed and seven others were injured during clashes between Turkish forces and the Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Van, a security source told Sputnik Wednesday.
"The clashes took place during a Turkish security forces patrol in the Van province," the source said.
The PKK is designated as a terrorist group in Turkey. The European Union also lists the organization as terrorist, with the European Parliament voting against removing the PKK from the list in 2015.
Tensions between Ankara and the PKK escalated in July 2015 when a ceasefire between the sides collapsed over a series of terror attacks allegedly committed by the PKK members.
