MOSCOW (Sputnik) The claim comes after last week, a newly formed body which preformed the functions of KOC, was threatened with legal action by the IOC for violating the Olympic branding rules.

According to the Inside the Games sports news portal, the lawsuit was launched to the Lausanne Civil Court in Switzerland.

In October 2015, the IOC Executive Committee suspended KOC in order to protect the Olympic movement in Kuwait form the "undue government interference." The suspension came as Kuwait failed to amend a law which IOC believed to be threatening to the autonomy of KOC and other National Federations. It was the second time when Kuwait was banned from IOC, but was reinstated in 2012.

As KOC was suspended, the Kuwaiti athletes performed as independent, under the Olympic flag, during the August 5-21 Olympic Games in Rio.
