MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on US State Secretary John Kerry to establish positive agenda of bilateral relations now to give impetus to their development during the presidency of the next US leader, Donald Trump, according to a statement issued by Venezuela's Foreign Ministry.
"President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela turned Secretary Kerry's attention to the necessity to establish a positive work agenda for the next administration to the benefit of both bilateral relations and regional affairs," the statement issued late on Wednesday following a phone conversation between the officials read.
Maduro reportedly asked Kerry "to convey congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump as well as his greetings to Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton."
Trump won the US presidential elections held on November 8 despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Clinton. Trump secured more than 270 electoral votes needed for victory.
