MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Trump also told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Friday that he and Putin had scheduled a phone call shortly. The president-elect said he had heard from most world leaders apart from China’s Xi Jinping.

Trump secured an unexpected victory in the presidential election on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. His inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.

Following the elections, the Kremlin said that Putin had sent Trump a congratulatory telegram in which he had expressed hope for work to overcome the current crisis in Moscow-Washington relations.
