According to the Telegraph newspaper, the dramatic change in US policy has caused concerns of the UK Foreign Office. UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is planning to hold a meeting with the representatives of Trump's administration in the upcoming weeks to highlight the importance of ousting President Assad, according to the newspaper.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May repeatedly stressed the necessity of Assad’s resignation, accusing him of "atrocious violence," the newspaper added.
Meanwhile, London hopes that Trump will soften his position on the Syrian issue, as it has been with his pledge to repeal the the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. Earlier this week, Trump told the Wall Street Journal that he would consider retaining some of provisions envisioned by US President Barack Obama’s signature health care reform law.
Trump won the November 8 US president election, stunning his opponents and a large number of mainstream media who considered his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton a favorite.
