Retired neurosurgeon and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has turned down an offer to serve as a cabinet secretary in US President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration.

Trump Vows to Consider Partial Preserving of Obamacare

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Conservative commentator Armstrong Williams, Carson's friend and business associate, told the news website Circa that Carson declined Trump's offer to become secretary of health and human services.

Because the Department of Health and Human Services oversees implementation of the Affordable Care Act, it would be a key player in any effort by Trump to repeal the 2010 law, which is also known as Obamacare.

Trump campaigned on a pledge to repeal and replace the law, which enables Americans to buy medical insurance from private companies on government-run marketplaces.
