Former investment banker, Emmanuel Macron, has announced today that he will be running for the French Presidency. Macron served as the Economy Minister for President Francois Hollande's government, but resigned earlier this year to launch his own political movement called En Marche. There has already been much speculation over the upcoming French presidential elections, especially given the results of the US presidential elections and the UK's Brexit vote. Macron's announcement today throws a spanner in the works for both the left and right of center candidates. Peru is now midway through its hosting of the annual APEC summit, and with talks reportedly taking place between Lima and Beijing over the long anticipated RCEP partnership, we’ll be looking at the future of free trade in the Asia-Pacific, now that the US is sounding more and more like it’s going to step back from such treaties in the wake of Donald Trump's victory.
