PARIS (Sputnik) — Prime Minister Manuel Valls’s Stop-Jihadism initiative – under the motto "there is always a choice" – kicked off with the launch of a website on the government portal that has stories of young foreign fighters and their families.
"To become radicalized means to destroy the family, their lives and the lives of others. Their lives changed in a matter of months. Discover how it all can start," the introductory message reads.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Valls warned that jihadists were using the "power of the Internet" to terrorize people and recruit new followers. The new website aims to explain the process of radicalization, how to detect its signs in a person and ways of preventing it.
According to government figures, some 5,700 people have been reported by their families since 2014 for allegedly showing signs of radicalization.
