DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — The mortar attack affected Damascus' districts of Mouhajrin and Mazraa, where the Russian Embassy is situated.
The press service of the Russian diplomatic mission confirmed that neither its buildings were damaged nor its staff had been injured during the attack.
Since 2011, Syria has been engulfed in a civil war, following the protests that had turned violent, as part of the so-called Arab Spring. During the conflict, hundreds of thousands Syrians have been killed and millions more have been displaced.
Within the framework of the civil war, anti-government militants have been shelling the crisis-torn capital, particularly its central districts. The Russian Embassy located in Mazraa has been repeatedly shelled this fall, sustaining the mortar attacks on October 12 and October 28.
